Two French and British tourists were injured in a motorcycle crash in Thailand.

Frenchman Sofiane Boulil, 22, and British pillion rider Seren Jade Radlin, 25, flew from their motorbike after crashing into Thai driver Songyot Noosum, 49, on busy tourist island Phuket, on February 19.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving a report at 6:49 am. They found the wounded trio lying on the road strewn with debris from the shattered motorbikes.

They were taken to the Patong Hospital for treatment.

Police Major Naruepon Prutthinon of the Patong Police Station said: 'One of the tourists was French and the other was British. I did not know whether they were a couple or not.

‘Currently, we are allowing them and the Thai driver to recover at Patong Hospital first.

‘Both sides are injured but still conscious. We could not clearly determine the severity of their injuries because they were rushed to the hospital as soon as possible.

‘It is unclear if any of them had drunk alcohol, but we did not smell any liquor on them.'

Officers said they obtained CCTV footage showing Songyot driving through a roundabout before crashing into the tourists.

Police said they have taken photos of the scene as evidence, adding an investigation into the crash was underway.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
