A kind jogger rescued a kitten and took her home as a pet.

Emerald Lace Reynes, 33, was running home from the gym when she heard the cat crying from a pile of trash on the roadside in Cebu, the Philippines, on February 18.

Footage shows Emerald searching for the moggy. She greeted the feline as she appeared lost and looking for her mum.

The Good Samaritan took the stray with her and bathed her at home..

Emerald said: 'I grew up watching my grandmother rescuing every cat she saw on the street. I picked up the habit.

'I have always been a car person since I was a kid. I treat every cat as my own child.'

The Philippines is one of the world's top countries for cat ownership. A 2023 Statista report found that more than 20 million Filipino households own a cat.

A Kantar Philippines survey in 2024 also showed that 94 per cent of households have pets, with cats being a popular choice.
