Kenya: International Vets Rush to Save Kenya’s Animals in Crisis
Archers Post, Kenya - February 24, 2025 A team of veterinarians from the United States and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), alongside a dedicated non-governmental organization, have banded together in a desperate mission to treat local animals during Justified Accord 2025 (JA25). The critical veterinary health exchange unfolded on February 17, 2025, in this remote Kenyan outpost, as part of the U.S. Africa Command’s flagship exercise in East Africa. Justified Accord 2025, running from February 10 to 21, is no ordinary military drill. Hosted across Kenya, Djibouti, and Tanzania, and spearheaded by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), the exercise aims to turbocharge multinational combat readiness and bolster crisis response capabilities. This year’s high-stakes training scenarios are designed to sharpen warfighting skills, extend operational reach, and prepare allied forces for complex joint missions. Yet amidst the roar of military maneuvers, it’s the quieter battle to save Kenya’s animals that has captured attention. The veterinary initiative underscores a broader goal of empowering regional partners, blending humanitarian efforts with military strategy. As captured in a U.S. Army video by Sgt. Zack Stine, the collaboration highlights the urgent need to support local wildlife and livestock, vital to the communities surrounding Archers Post. For the veterinarians racing against time, their work is a lifeline—proof that even in the chaos of war games, compassion can still take center stage.
