British tourists caught up in flash floods on Full Moon Party island
British tourists were caught up in flash floods that hit the Full Moon Party island in Thailand.
Footage shows Jennie Grace Mcsorley wading through torrents of muddy water surging across the streets of Koh Phangan in Surat Thani province on February 24.
Jennie, from Leeds, West Yorkshire, says in the video: 'This is so f***** dangerous. Can we get there that way? I literally nearly got swept away. Mum, I love you, this might be the end of my life, no joke, it's even deeper down there. The currents are strong.
'This is the road, the path to our hotel, I think our hotel is underwater and it's really strong currents. How strong is that current?'
Passakorn Boonyalak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said Surat Thani was among several provinces being battered by the downpours.
The Thai Meteorological Department warned of more heavy rain falling in southern Thailand until February 25. The agency said residents should be careful of flash floods and forest runoff.
Waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand were forecasted to reach up to 10ft high during thunderstorms. Fishermen were urged to refrain from sailing.
Rescue worker Art Surachat said: 'Koh Phangan is experiencing continuous rainfall, which has caused floods and landslides in some areas. Residents in at-risk areas were notified to evacuate.'
The Thai Full Moon Party is a famous monthly event held on Koh Phangan, an island in southern Thailand.
It typically takes place on the night of the full moon at Haad Rin Beach, attracting thousands of partygoers from all over the world.
