STORYLINE:

A Nairobi-based expert has praised the exemplary role of China's high-quality development for other developing countries, especially in the field of renewable energy.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): XN IRAKI, Professor with University of Nairobi, Kenya
"So I think that transition has been handled very well. I think that is a trajectory that many countries would have admired and wanted to follow.
I think what impresses most is the shift to the renewables. So if you're going to have some solar panels in your house, most likely they're going to be from China. If you're thinking of buying an electric car, you have to think about China, BYD and so on. So I think that transition from the coal fired, from the fossil fuels to renewable energy, to electric cars from internal combustion engine, I think to me that has been very impressive.
And we hope that technology can be exported to the rest of the world so that everybody plays his or her part in mitigating the global warming or the climatic change."

The expert also noted that China's growth will benefit the development of the Global South nations.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): XN IRAKI, Professor with University of Nairobi, Kenya
"There's no doubt that China's economic growth has not been just Chinese. It has dragged the world along. Because if China develops, then they have to demand imports, they have to export, they have to get new markets. So it should be a two-way process so that as China develops, it improves the rest of the world together, Africa, South America, and least developed countries. "
