A huge python trapped under a car was rescued in Indonesia.

Shocking footage shows the massive snake beneath the vehicle on the Trans Sulawesi road in Palopo City, South Sulawesi, on February 24.

The 16ft (5m) reptile even attempted to strike while being removed by locals.

Andi Batara, the car's owner, said: 'While driving, the large python suddenly passed and blocked our way. The rear tyres of the car couldn't pass.

'My passengers and I had to get out and call residents and drivers to help evacuate the python.'

The snake was successfully freed after around two hours. No one was harmed in the encounter.

Pythons are nonvenomous constrictors that prey on rodents, birds, lizards, and mammals. They lack venomous fangs and consume their prey whole by swallowing them.
