Philippines - February 24, 2025 Between Balicasag Island and Panglao, Bohol, a tense scene unfolded yesterday, 24 February 2025, as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) raced to rescue 14 people aboard the half-submerged MBCA Ayoshi Kim Rin 8. The distressed motorbanca, caught in treacherous waters, had left its passengers and crew in peril, prompting a swift response from the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Balicasag. After receiving an urgent alert, the rescue team sped to the location and found the vessel faltering amid big waves and a strong current. The motorbanca had suffered a malfunction mid-journey to Panglao, losing control and sustaining damage that left it partially underwater. On board were 12 passengers, the boat captain, and a crew member, all relying on the Coast Guard for their safety. With precision and care, the team transferred all 14 individuals to the awaiting MBCA Nika and Niah Naj, ensuring their safe extraction from the sinking vessel. Once the passengers were secure, the rescuers towed the crippled motorbanca back to the Panglao coastline, averting a potential tragedy. An initial investigation revealed the root of the crisis, a mechanical failure that halted the boat’s progress and left it vulnerable to the rough seas. Fortunately, all those rescued emerged in good physical condition, a testament to the Coast Guard’s timely intervention. They were later handed over to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Offices (MENRO) Panglao for additional support. This dramatic rescue highlights the unpredictable dangers of the sea and the vital role of the Philippine Coast Guard in safeguarding lives. For the 14 souls aboard MBCA Ayoshi Kim Rin 8, yesterday’s ordeal ended not in disaster, but in relief, thanks to the bravery and efficiency of their rescuers.
