Gaza Strip - February 24, 2025 Gaza residents hope the second phase of the ceasefire deal will be implemented as early as possible, as reconstruction of the devastated Gaza Strip needs to be addressed to resumes people's life there. According to the ceasefire agreement about the Gaza Strip, Israel and Hamas were supposed to initiate the second phase of negotiations on Feb 3, which would address the release of the remaining detainees held by Israel and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. However, substantial negotiations have yet to take place between the two sides. Meanwhile, Israel continues to impose strict controls on humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, with heavy equipment for clearing debris being particularly scarce. As a result, residents of Gaza face significant challenges in rebuilding their homes. A residential area in the downtown Khan Yunis City has been almost completely destroyed by Israeli military forces, rendering it uninhabitable. Despite this, many residents insist on remaining among the ruins, hoping that international organizations will provide them with assistance to clear the debris and expedite the reconstruction efforts in the area. Layid and his family had lived in the neighborhood for decades before their building has suffered severe damage from the ongoing conflict. With no decent tent available for temporary shelter, Layid must climb over the ruins of surrounding houses each day and squeeze through a small opening into a neighbor's home to access his own. Compared to Layid'a family, the situation for the Ramadan family is slightly better, but only marginally so. A crucial step in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip is the removal of debris left by the conflict. A spokesperson for the Khan Younis city government said that the clearing of rubble is an impossible task until a comprehensive ceasefire agreement is reached and Israel allows heavy equipment for debris removal to enter Gaza.
