Pet cats and a duckling live harmoniously as best friends in their owner's home.

The mother tabby named Heyhey had recently given birth to a kitten that shared her nest with an adopted bird named Kwekkwek in Batangas, the Philippines.

Footage shows the adult feline reaching for the juvenile duck that could not hop into the cardboard box.

She bit the neck of the bird to carry it, treating it like one of her litter, and placed it in the bed.

Pet lover Nina Marie Luceno said: 'Having the duckling was unplanned. We live in a third-floor apartment that does not allow pets.

'Sometimes our neighbours would get angry at us, but we could not bear leaving them.'

Despite having issues with the building, Nina added she is grateful that her pets get along together.

She said: 'I am happy that my pets love each other like siblings. We are like family. When we saw the baby duck, it was very weak and looked sick.

'I could not leave it there. When I took it home I was so touched because my cats cared for the bird.'
