Gaza Strip - February 25, 2025 The persistent rainfall and bitter cold over the past week have exacerbated the already dire living conditions in Gaza, where many people have been forced into makeshift shelters after their homes were reduced to rubble during the Israel-Hamas conflict. Imad Ismail once lived in a five-story building in northern Gaza. However, months of relentless airstrikes and shelling since the large-scale conflict erupted in October 2023 have left his home in ruins. For the past few months, Ismail has been living in a fragile tent assembled from salvaged materials on the remnants of his former residence. The structure offers little protection against the harsh winds, and recent continuous rainfall has further weakened it, forcing him to relocate and rebuild on higher ground. Although the first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which took effect on Jan. 19, has brought relative peace and stability to northern Gaza, the slow and meager influx of humanitarian aid remains far from sufficient to meet people's needs. Essential supplies, particularly fuel and mobile shelters, have yet to arrive in adequate amounts. Even during the day, thick blankets are necessary inside the tents to ward off the cold. The frigid temperatures, lack of heating provisions, and inadequate nutrition has also led to a rise in chronic illnesses among children. Shotlist: Northern Gaza Strip - Feb 25, 2025: 1.
