United States - February 25, 2025 Halemaʻumaʻu — Lava fountains burst forth relentlessly from both the north and south vents within Halemaʻumaʻu crater, electrifying the night as of 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25th. Scientists with the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory watched in awe as the north vent’s fountains soared to staggering heights of 500 to 600 feet, only to taper off around 9 p.m., giving way to a surge from the south vent. Meanwhile, the crimson glow of Episode 11 pierced the darkness, visible all the way from Hilo, casting an ominous yet mesmerizing spell over the island on Tuesday night.
