This is the dramatic moment a car park collapsed under heavy snow in Ottawa.

Footage shows concrete slabs crashing to the ground as a chunk of the six-storey parking garage collapsed early Wednesday morning, February 26.

Authorities said no injuries were reported, while around 50 cars were still inside the structure.

Ottawa Fire Services said a resident had earlier reported damage to a column on one of the pillars on Tuesday evening.

It said in a statement: 'Our Technical Rescue Teams, including our structural collapse team, were dispatched to the scene.

'Upon arrival, it was confirmed five to six girders, the main horizontal support of a structure, were bowing and the structural integrity was compromised. The top floor of the six-storey parking garage, which is not covered, was confirmed to have a heavy snow load on it.

'Our partners from Ottawa Police were called to the scene to close the roads in the area and provide scene security. A City of Ottawa engineer and the property managers were also called to the scene.'

They added the area has been cordoned off as investigations were ongoing.
