Gaza Strip - February 27, 2025 Buses carrying 445 Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli jails arrived at the European Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis on Thursday. The release was part of the first phase of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel. On Thursday, Israeli authorities began releasing Palestinian prisoners after Hamas handed over the bodies of four Israeli hostages held in Gaza to the Red Cross. According to the Hamas-linked Prisoners' Information Office, a total of 642 detainees had been released overnight. One of the released prisoners, Ayad Al-Saudi, said he and his fellow detainees were subjected to mistreatment by Israeli authorities. The release had originally been scheduled for last Saturday but was delayed by Israel, which insisted on securing the release of the next group of hostages without the "disgraceful ceremonies." On Tuesday, Hamas announced it had resolved the dispute over the delayed release, following talks between a Hamas delegation and Egyptian officials in Cairo. After a long and anxious wait, families were overjoyed when the delayed release of their loved ones finally became a reality. Shotlist: Khan Younis, Gaza Strip - Feb 27, 2025: 1.
