The boulder blast shook the canyon in California as the highway remained closed.

Authorities said a recent rainstorm brought mud onto State Route 27 and washed out a portion of the highway.

Caltrans crews detonated a massive rock to allow mud removal to continue on February 24.

The boulder, a colossal slab measuring 30ft long, 15ft wide, and 10ft high, hung unstably between postmiles 2.1 and 1.7, posing a severe threat to workers and the road below.

Perched near a power line, its removal required meticulous coordination with utility companies to cut power and secure the area.

Dramatic footage shows the controlled explosion shattering rocks in the area.

The highway, also known as Topanga Canyon Boulevard, has been shut down between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive since the storm struck, compounding existing damage from earlier wildfires.
