This is the chaotic moment an investment summit in India descended into chaos as guests rioted over the free buffet.

The two-day conference was supposed to be a gathering of the booming country's best and brightest to strike stock market deals worth more than 273 million GBP.

Organisers may have been able to predict share price movements - but they failed to foresee the stampede over a stand handing out complimentary vegetables and puri, a local delicacy.

Dramatic footage shows hungry participants jostling for food plates during lunch at the 8th Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit in Bhopal on February 24.

The unruly scene overshadowed the summit's aim of securing large corporate investments for small and mid-cap businesses in the thriving economy, which is tipped to overtake China.

Attention quickly shifted from the goal of promoting Madhya Pradesh as a global investment destination, to the feral conduct of guests scrambling for food platters, stealing plates, and disrupting the meal service.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the summit, which was attended by prominent Indian industrialist Gautam Adani and representatives from over 60 countries.

One attendee said: 'I'm continually disappointed by my countryman. We have the world at our fingertips and they behave like jackals.'

The filmer added: 'I was collecting food from a different stand when this happened. I tried to tell people to stop but they didn't listen.'

Earlier this month, Indian wedding guests had a mass brawl when an argument over the state of the curry escalated into a fight in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, India, on February 20.

The dispute began when some hungry relatives from the groom's side demanded that the dishes be served immediately.

But the bride's father, who was responsible for catering at the event, took offence at being accused of having poor culinary skills.

Two sets of relatives began arguing before the row spiralled out of control, and fists were flying at the reception.

The situation escalated into a full-on brawl, with guests throwing punches, kicks, and chairs at each other.

A case has been registered, and the officers are investigating the incident.
