Giant clam squirts water as forager tries to pry it open
A clam squirted water in a defensive response as a forager attempted to pry it open.
Footage shows a woman using a small rock to shuck the mollusc, which was tightly attached to a rock in Shan State, Myanmar, on February 2.
However, as she struggled to remove it, the threatened sea creature suddenly expelled a jet of water.
Startled, the local backed away and dipped her hands into the water to search for other edible seashells.
She said: 'It was so hard to take it out, so I decided to just let it go.'
Clams can squirt water when they sense a threat or disturbance, a behaviour that may startle predators or deter foragers. This sudden burst of water serves as a natural defence mechanism.
