A schoolgirl was left fighting for her life after she was mauled by her neighbour's demon pit bull in Thailand.

Kaimook, 6, was sleeping on her bed when the rabid male dog named Solar, 7, charged into her home in Nonthaburi province, on Thursday evening, February 27.

The muscle-bound canine was said to have sank its fangs into the youngsters neck, dragging her onto the floor before ripping into her scalp.

Neighbours who heard Kaimook's bloodcurdling screams rushed over and found the beast brutally ripping the skin off her head. They struck Solar on the head with sticks and a mortar, then strangled him with a rope before yanking him away from the bleeding girl.

Kaimook was rushed to a hospital with deep lacerations on her head and ears. Medics said a part of her skull had been exposed after the savage attack.

Neaw, a resident who first came to Kaimook's rescue, said he noticed the normally caged dog walking past his home at around 8 pm.

He said: 'I followed Solar because it was unusual that he was roaming around so freely that late at night. I saw him walk into the neighbour's house with no fence shortly before the girl screamed.

'I rushed in and saw the dog biting her neck. I managed to pull him off, but he attacked again, going for her head.'

Solar's owner Monthien Roobyim, 54, apologised for the nightmare pit bull attack saying 'it was unintentional'. She claimed her neighbour Jit, 60, had left her gate open after collecting water from her home.

The pet owner said: 'I just did not intend for it to be like this. I am sorry that the child is in serious condition. I will take responsibility but the incident did not occur at my house.

'My neighbour also admitted that he had left the gate unlocked. This dog normally does not bite anyone. He is usually in a cage. Today, I let him walk around the house but I do not let him out often.

'I am also monitoring the girl's situation. But from now on, I will not let my neighbour get water from my house.'

Jit allegedly confessed that he forgot to lock the gate properly after leaving.

He said: 'I thought the dog had returned to its cage after I got some water. I went back home, but I later heard someone shouting that the dog had bitten a child.'

He said he was discussing compensation with the dog's owner and Kaimook's family.

Kaimook was reported to be in critical condition at the ICU of the Pakkred Hospital 2.

The nightmare devil dog attack came just a month after a Buddhist monk was mauled to death by his own pet pit bull in the same province.

Phra Bandit Bootsen, 46, was feeding dog food to the one-year-old canine named Jord when it latched onto his hand instead.

He was found by temple staff on January 21 with half of his face chewed off and his left hand severed.

Officers believe Bandit had been dead for two days, with Jord feeding on his flesh. They did not find his missing hand, which was understood to have been eaten by the murderous canine.

Thailand is notoriously unregulated over pets and there are no laws preventing people from keeping dangerous dogs. Despite numerous fatal pit bull attacks reported in the news, stubborn locals continue to keep the rabid animals as companions.
