Geneva, Switzerland - February 27, 2025 China firmly supports the Palestinian people's just cause of restoring their legitimate national rights, the Chinese ambassador in Geneva said on Thursday, calling on the international community to work for a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question. Speaking at an interactive dialogue on the High Commissioner's report concerning the Occupied Palestinian Territory at the 58th session of the United States (U.N.) Human Rights Council, Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the U.N. Office in Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, said that China is deeply concerned about the human rights conditions and the severe humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip. The occupying side should earnestly fulfill its obligations under international law, respect and protect the human rights of the Palestinian people, and ensure safe return of the displaced to their homes, Chen said. The ambassador noted that the two-state solution is the only viable way to settle the Palestinian question, and that Gaza is an inalienable part of the Palestinian territories. China firmly supports the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, believes that "the Palestinians governing Palestine" is a principle that must be upheld in the post-conflict governance of Gaza, and opposes any forced displacement of the people of Gaza, Chen said. China calls on all parties to value the wishes and demands of Arab states, particularly Palestine, and make efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories, and promote a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question, he said.
