[Voiceover] Chen Shasha's journey into the world of beauty started behind the lens as a photographer. [Soundbite] Chen Shasha, Makeup artist; Founder of Huajianji: "Growing up, I was always fascinated by the elaborate makeup in Chinese period dramas. Although I majored in photography, I discovered my passion through makeup." [Voiceover] Chen now operates a studio that specializes in traditional Chinese-style bridal looks, and now it's become a go-to destination for brides seeking a unique way to honor their heritage with an authentic cultural touch. [Soundbite] Chen Shasha, Makeup artist; Founder of Huajianji: "In the past, not many people knew about Chinese-style weddings. But thanks to new media and social platforms, more and more people are discovering that there's more to weddings than just the classic white gown. Now, couples are excited to pick a wedding style that really reflects who they are on their big day." [Voiceover] As more brides seek out traditional Chinese wedding looks, the demand for skilled Chinese-style makeup artists is on the rise. [Soundbite] Chen Shasha, Makeup artist; Founder of Huajianji: "There are plenty of Western-style makeup artists in the industry, but recently, there's been a big rise in Hanfu enthusiasts. As a result, there's been a growing demand for Chinese-style makeup artists. A lot of travel photo studios and wedding studios have reached out to me, looking for talent that can offer these specialized services." [Voiceover] Along with her bridal services, Chen also offers workshops for aspiring makeup artists. Students from all over the country travel to learn the art of traditional Chinese bridal makeup - and many of them are looking for ways to earn extra income or start a part-time job. [Soundbite] Chen Shasha, Makeup artist; Founder of Huajianji: "One of my students messaged me during the national holiday, and she was so excited to tell me that she made her first "bucket of gold" - earning 3,000 yuan as a part-time makeup artist!" [Voiceover] Chen has also noticed that Hanfu enthusiasts make up a large part of her student base. The rising popularity of travel photography, where people capture themselves in traditional Chinese clothing, has sparked an interest in matching those outfits with authentic Chinese makeup. [Soundbite] Chen Shasha, Makeup artist; Founder of Huajianji: "Some of my students are really into traditional culture. They might not be looking to pursue a professional career as makeup artists, but they're eager to learn how to create the perfect look for their photoshoots." [Voiceover] Whether it's for brides, Hanfu enthusiasts, or aspiring makeup artists, Chen is helping people connect with their heritage - one makeup look at a time.
