Bulgarians celebrated this year's Baba Marta on Saturday.

The day of Baba Marta is a holiday related to welcoming the upcoming spring and is celebrated by Bulgarians worldwide on March 1 every year.

On the day and a few days afterwards, Bulgarians exchange and wear the so-called "Martenitsa," a small piece of adornment made of white and red yarn.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Bulgarian): Martenitsa seller
"Happy Baba Marta! May we be rosy red, cheerful, laughing! March 1 is a holiday that unites Bulgarians, and the tradition still holds - keeps it alive. This is a moment of the year when we exchange kind words with our closest people. May we be healthy, and have luck, love and happiness."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Bulgarian): Sofia resident
"Have a nice holiday, with health, love, and luck."
