Russians on Sunday celebrated the final day of Maslenitsa, a traditional Slavic festival marking the end of winter and the arrival of spring.
The weeklong festival featured public fairs, concerts, and competitions, with people gathering to enjoy pancakes, a key symbol of the holiday.
The highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial burning of a straw effigy, symbolizing casting off winter's chill and the renewal of life.
Maslenitsa, one of the oldest Slavic festivals, is widely celebrated in Russia and parts of eastern Europe.
It ran from Feb. 24 to March 2 this year.
