This is the moment a cargo truck overturned at an intersection in Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the 18-wheeler with a pink cargo container flipping over at the underpass in Chonburi province, on February 7. It toppled onto its side and smashed onto a concrete barrier, causing traffic congestion at the Chonburi Bypass Road.

Police arrived at the scene after the accident was reported at 4 pm. They found the truck in a puddle of leaking fuel.

The driver Somboon Saraburi, 20, was unharmed.

He said: 'I was turning at the junction, but the truck flipped over due to the momentum from the cargo's weight.'

A police spokesman added: 'The road has been cleared and the truck driver was taken to the police station for further questioning.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
