Zookeeper forces pelican to spit out two guinea pigs
A zookeeper rescued two guinea pigs from a pelican's mouth after the bird attempted to swallow them.
The hungry pelican tried to gulp down the small rodents, prompting the keeper to intervene in Sichuan, China, on December 1.
Footage shows the zoo staff prying open the bird's large beak, successfully freeing the guinea pigs, which tumbled to the ground and scurried away unharmed.
The zookeeper then guided the pelican back toward its enclosure to prevent further incidents.
Pelicans are naturally curious and opportunistic feeders, often attempting to eat anything that catches their interest - even animals larger than themselves.
