Firefighters participated in an alternative sexuality parade in Sydney.

Footage shows more than 60 volunteers and staff from the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) joining the colourful Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday evening, March 1.

It marked the 19th year the RFS has joined the event, highlighting its role as a diverse and inclusive community group.

Mardi Gras is a world-renowned community celebration featuring vibrant floats and music.

Historically, Mardi Gras was a last opportunity for people to indulge before the Lenten season, a time of fasting and self-denial in preparation for Easter.
