An alligator crossed a road with a wild turtle clamped in its jaws.

Visitors spotted the American gator ambling across the highway with the reptile in its mouth at Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Florida.

Footage captured by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service shows the predator sauntering toward the other side of the field, hoping to tuck into the creature for its lunch.

Two cars can be seen briefly stopping in the middle of the road to give way to the animal and prevent it from being startled.

Alligators are opportunistic carnivores, eating pretty much anything they can catch. They often hunt fish, turtles, birds, and small mammals.
