Spain: Shock Drone Footage Reveals Gas Blast Horror In Spain
Mieres del Camino, Spain - March 04, 2025 Stunning aerial images captured by a National Police drone have laid bare the devastation after a massive gas explosion flattened a three-storey building in Mieres, Asturias, this Monday. The blast, which echoed across the city, left 18 injured, with three still fighting for their lives, and locals stunned it’s being called a “miracle” no one died. The ferocious detonation, likely sparked by a gas pocket from a damaged pipe during nearby works, reduced the two-storey building plus ground floor on Ramón y Cajal street to rubble. Of the 18 hurt, five were rushed to hospital—three in grave condition. A 64-year-old woman was whisked to the burns unit at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, while a 22-year-old man and a 47-year-old remain stable but critical in intensive care at Oviedo’s HUCA. Two younger lads, both 21, are holding on—one under observation at Valle del Nalón Hospital in Langreo, the other stable at Álvarez Buylla Hospital in Mieres. Rescue teams and sniffer dogs from the Principado Emergency Service scoured the wreckage yesterday, ruling out anyone trapped beneath the debris. Nearly 50 residents—49 to be exact—were left homeless, with 37 put up in a hotel and 12 in a student residence, courtesy of Mieres Town Hall. This morning, SEPA firefighters will escort neighbours from nearby buildings to grab essentials before the shattered structure’s demolition begins. The Red Cross psychosocial team has been on hand since dawn, comforting those forced out. The explosion, which hit around 4pm, followed reports of a gas smell that prompted a supply cut—too late to stop a deadly pocket from igniting. Emergency crews suspect the blast, felt 25 kilometres away in Oviedo, wrecked not just the building but nearby properties too. It’s a grim scene in this mining heartland, and the haunting drone footage proves it.
