Dexter, United States - March 04, 2025 Chaos erupted on the roads as desert winds whipped up a blinding storm, leaving drivers stranded and emergency crews stretched to the limit. On February 4, Fire Chief of Dexter Fire & Rescue, Justin Powell, shared a chilling video showing road 258 swallowed by a wall of dust, with visibility reduced to nothing. He warned: "285 is still closed between Roswell and Artesia. Zero visibility in spots. State road 2 is also very bad with low and no visibility. Especially between Dexter and Hagerman." Multiple vehicle accidents have piled up across the area, turning highways into danger zones. "If you do not need to be driving, please do not do so. Stay put!" he urged. Warnings have now been extended into the evening, with fierce winds set to howl for the next couple of days. "This is spring time in the desert NM, so this is expected at times," Chief Powell explained. But the plea was clear: "Just please use caution and common sense." Emergency teams are battling to keep up. "So many emergency agencies are out working all these accidents," he said. At times, every available ambulance has been packed, ferrying multiple patients to safety. "So please be safe, stay out if you can until winds die down and visibility gets better," he begged. The desert’s wrath has struck hard, and locals are bracing for more.
