Stronger polices for spurring consumption, such as supporting the consumer goods trade-in programs and improving the wage growth mechanism, will help promote economic restructuring and sustain long-term growth, two experts said in sharing their interpretation of the government work report delivered by Premier Li Qiang at the national legislature's annual session on Wednesday. China will make efforts to vigorously boost consumption and investment returns and stimulate domestic demand across the board as one of the major tasks for 2025, according to the government work report. In this regard, ultra-long special treasury bonds totaling 300 billion yuan will also be issued to support consumer goods trade-in programs, said Premier Li as he delivered the government work report on behalf of the State Council. On top of expanded trade-in subsidy policy for consumer goods, this year will also see the introduction of special measures to enhance purchasing power, increase high-quality supply, and improve the consumption environment. As early as the beginning of this year, specific measures have been introduced to promote large-scale equipment upgrades and consumer goods trade-in programs with greater intensity and scope. For example, the number of home appliance categories [eligible for the campaign] has grown from eight to 12, with smartphones and digital products now included. Additionally, the implementation of trade-in programs for smart and eco-friendly products is being accelerated, ensuring that these innovations move quickly from factories to people's homes."; [SHOT OVERLAYING SOUNDBITE] FILE: China - Date unknown 10. Additionally, it aims to enhance long-term consumer purchasing power. These measures seek to shift consumption from scale expansion to quality upgrades, address supply-demand mismatches, and create a positive cycle where consumption drives investment and investment optimizes supply."; [SHOT OVERLAYING SOUNDBITE] FILE: China - Date unknown 14.
