A blizzard lashed Nebraska, bringing up to five inches of snow to homes.

The powerful winter storm swept through the eastern part of the state on Tuesday evening, March 4.

Footage shows blinding snow and rapidly shifting gusts in Omaha around 8:17 pm on Wednesday.

Winter weather advisories were issued for the area, lasting through March 5, as strong winds and snowfall blanketed the region.

Lincoln and Omaha received between three to five inches of snow, with parts of north-central Nebraska also seeing up to five inches.

The sharp drop in temperature, combined with powerful winds, created hazardous conditions, prompting blizzard warnings and severely reducing visibility.

The storm led to school closures and the shutdown of a large section of Interstate 80 from Grand Island to Omaha.

Authorities said the highway reopened between Lincoln and Omaha at around 8 am on Wednesday but remained closed between Lincoln and Grand Island.

A High Wind Warning was issued until noon on Wednesday, with winds reaching up to 40 mph and gusts potentially peaking at 60 mph.

The Nebraska State Patrol responded to over 300 weather-related traffic incidents during the storm and urged residents to avoid travelling.

Officials said: 'Blizzard conditions continue in eastern Nebraska tonight. Do not attempt to travel. Stay safe, Nebraska.'
