Quick-thinking man uses fishing rod to rescue woman from freezing river in China
On the afternoon of 6th March, in Ningxiang City, Changsha, Hunan, two women were releasing fish by the river when one of them accidentally slipped while releasing loaches and fell into the freezing water. She struggled to stay afloat as the current carried her further away, creating a dangerous situation. Her sister, watching from the riverbank, panicked and called for help but was unsure what to do.
Nearby, Mr Liang was about to park his car for a fishing session when he heard the cries for help. Although he could not swim, he remained calm and quickly devised a rescue plan.
He first attempted to reach the woman with a tree branch from the riverbank, but it was too short. Thinking fast, he ran back to his car and grabbed a fishing rod.
Mr Liang cast the fishing line towards the woman and shouted for her to grab hold of it. She managed to grip the line tightly, and he carefully reeled her in, using steady force to pull her towards the shore.
After about five minutes of effort, he successfully brought the woman close enough to grab her by the hand and pull her safely onto dry land. Exhausted, she collapsed on the ground.
Fortunately, after a hospital examination, the woman was found to be unharmed, though she was understandably shaken by the ordeal.
