Rowlett, United States - March 06, 2025 A brave Rowlett police officer pulled a suspected drunk driver from a blazing wreck after the man crashed into his squad car. Rowlett police were already on Interstate 30, dealing with traffic from a separate chase that kicked off in Garland and spilled into Rowlett. The drama unfolded early Thursday when 33-year-old Lyn Alan Smith, allegedly under the influence, slammed into Officer Issac Gorskikh’s patrol car parked on the shoulder. Video captured by another officer shows Gorskikh smashing the window of the locked, burning vehicle to reach the unresponsive driver. “Not only does he get him out of the fiery vehicle, but he also drags him out and away from the danger,” said Rowlett Police Cpl. Jaqueline Vergara. The heroic cop then hoisted the man over a concrete barrier, shielding them both from speeding traffic. In a stunning twist, police say the man Gorskikh risked his life to save was the same driver who rammed his squad car, leaving the officer injured. “The officer immediately after being struck, exits his squad unit. And instead of doing a self-evaluation of his injuries, he doesn’t think twice; his law enforcement instinct kicks in,” Vergara added. Gorskikh had been assisting with the earlier call when the crash happened. Smith now faces serious charges as the investigation continues.
