This is the dramatic moment police used a grappler to apprehend a suspect after a high-speed chase on Interstate 5 in Thurston County.

The incident began when Washington State Patrol (WSP) attempted to stop a vehicle with expired registration tabs on Monday evening, March 3. The driver accelerated, leading to a police pursuit.

Thurston County deputies responded to assist after WSP requested backup, deploying their grappler device to help stop the vehicle.

Sparks flew and flames were visible from the car's rear as the pursuit continued, but one officer successfully used the tool to bring the vehicle to a stop.

The sheriff's office confirmed that the 27-year-old driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

Deputies arrested the suspect on charges of eluding police and driving under the influence (DUI).
