Skiers use phone flashlights to get to safety at night after power cut caused cable cars breakdown
This is the moment skiers use phone flashlights to navigate to safety at night after a power cut caused a cable car breakdown.
The incident occurred at the Funiushan Ski Resort in Luoyang, Henan Province, China, on Saturday, January 25.
Footage shows holidaymakers skiing down the pitch-black piste, using their phone flashlights to light the way in -10 degrees Celsius temperatures. The second video depicts heavy snowfall and strong winds affecting the area.
The clip later shows skiers back inside the resort hotel, still using flashlights, as electricity has not yet been restored.
Local media reports indicate that some visitors were trapped in cable cars for 40 minutes due to the power outage.
The local power company confirmed that heavy snow had caused the lines supplying electricity to the resort to fail.
Authorities said the power was restored later that night, and normal operations resumed at the ski resort.
There were reportedly a number of children among the skiers taking to the slopes at night for what was supposed to be a fun activity until the power outage.
One of the tourists, identified as Mr Liu, said he was near the bottom of the slopes when the incident occurred and immediately used his phone flashlight to illuminate his surroundings.
He then saw other skiers descending the piste with their flashlights on in the freezing cold.
It remains unclear whether there were any injuries, although the venue announced that customers would be able to request partial refunds to compensate for the inconvenience.
