A baby grasped the candle of his cake and cried as he appeared confused by his first birthday party.

Kenzo Mitchell tried to touch the flame from the tiny wick when it was time to blow the cake during his special day in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on February 27.

Footage shows Kenzo being held by his father Michael while his proud mum Michelen gestured to the dessert.

However, the youngster seemed astonished by the flicker on top of one of the astronaut figures on his space-themed cake, so he moved his hand over it.

The flames touched his skin, and he was singed before bursting into tears.

Michelen, from the Philippines, said: 'He had never seen a candle being lit before. Kenzo is a curious baby. He was hurt by the flame but he has learned his lesson now. We will see what he does for his second birthday.'

The flames were put out, and the youngster cried while his parents comforted him.

They checked his fingers and found he was fine. Despite the unexpected turn of events, the family still wished Kenzo a happy birthday.
