The sad story of a mother and child who died in the embrace of a flash flood in Indonesia
The sad story of a mother and child who died in the embrace of a flash flood in Indonesia.
Unfortunately, a mother and child were found dead in a flash flood, hugging each other in Indonesia.
These are the moments when the bodies of a mother and child who were victims of the flood were discovered in Pelabuhanratu sub-district, Sukabumi Regency, West Java province.
They are Santi alias Zahra (40 years old) and Nurul (3 years old).
The two were found hugging each other in a pile of garbage and mud after the flood on Friday, March 7, 2025. It is known that the flash flood occurred on Thursday, March 6, 2025 afternoon.
"We managed to find the two victims at 13.30 West Indonesia Time (local time). Both were found hugging each other and had died," said the Head of the Operations Section of the Jakarta Search And Rescue Office, Ahmad Rizkiansyah.
They were trapped in the house and did not have time to save themselves when the flood hit.
The mother and child were found in Gumelar Village, Palabuhanratu District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. It is known that both of them had shouted for help, but unfortunately they could not be saved. The mother and child tried to survive the raging water. But fate said otherwise. The house collapsed, swept away by the strong flash flood.
Disaster came suddenly. The Cipalabuhan River, which usually flows calmly, turned into a raging monster.
The strong current dragged everything in its path, including the simple rented house occupied by Santi and Nurul, a mother and daughter.
"When the water rose, she started asking for help. But what can we do, we were also busy saving our respective families," said Andi Andriansyah, a resident who had tried to help.
Before the incident, local residents had reminded Santi to evacuate. However, she chose to stay. That decision became the fate that brought her and her little daughter into the embrace of the flood.
Witnesses said that Santi and Nurul managed to hold on, holding onto the window of the rented house as the water rose higher.
However, the power of nature could not be stopped. The strong current destroyed the building in an instant, dragging the mother and child into the whirlpool.
