A 29-year-old man has been charged after scaling London's iconic Elizabeth Tower, home to Big Ben, in a pro-Palestine protest.

Daniel Day, from Palmerston Road in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, climbed the landmark barefoot on Saturday morning, remaining on the structure for several hours before descending just after midnight. He now faces charges of intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance and trespassing on a protected site.

Following his arrest, protesters gathered outside Charing Cross Police Station in support of Day, waving Palestinian flags and chanting in solidarity.

Day has been remanded in custody and is set to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
