Seaplane lands on floats after regular landing gear malfunctions
A seaplane that experienced issues with its regular landing gear landed on its floats at an airport in Bali.
The incident occurred at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Indonesia on March 8.
Footage shows the aircraft on the runway after it was forced to land on its floats, with emergency service personnel inspecting the scene.
Seven passengers aboard the aircraft were briefly evacuated, with no serious injuries reported.
Authorities said that the plane, which had flown from Benete in West Sumbawa, experienced a landing gear malfunction while approaching the airport.
Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, the airport's chief, reported that the plane became stuck on the runway, prompting a temporary operational closure of all flights for safety reasons.
The runway was closed for about two hours while evacuations and inspections took place.
Shahab said: 'This was done to ensure that no foreign objects were left on the runway, which could endanger flight safety.'
As a result of the incident, 10 departing flights were delayed, and 21 arriving flights were also affected.
An incident report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: 'An Airfast Indonesia, operating for Amman Mineral, float-equipped amphibious DHC-6 Twin Otter 400 made a gear-up landing on its floats the runway at Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali. All passengers were safely evacuated. The runway was closed until 13:06 local time, causing delays to other flights.'
The cause of the landing gear malfunction remains unclear.
