US, Los Angeles: Montclair Pursuit Ends With Officer Involved Shooting UPDATE
Los Angeles, United States - March 10, 2025 03/10/2025 12:03 pm (GMT-0700) MONTCLAIR, Calif. – Chino Police Department is investigating a possible shooting that occurred at the end of a pursuit in Montclair, specifically at the intersection of Kadota Avenue and Mission Boulevard. Authorities are currently uncertain whether the suspect fired shots or if officers were the ones who discharged their weapons during the incident. Following the pursuit, the suspect barricaded himself inside a vehicle, prompting a response from SWAT teams. Evidence markers were visible in the street and near the SWAT trucks deployed at the scene. As of now, the Chino Police Department has not provided any additional details concerning the incident. PER CHINO POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE: On March 10, 2025, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Chino Police officers responded to a report of a domestic violence assault with a deadly weapon in the 14000 block of Monte Vista Avenue in the City of Chino. The victim reported that her boyfriend, Jose Martinez, a 47-year-old resident of Rialto, was attempting to force her into a vehicle. Martinez then slammed the victim’s head into a light pole and struck her multiple times. The suspect then forced the victim into the vehicle, however; she was able to escape shortly after. The victim was transported via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. Detectives from the Chino Police Department responded and continued the investigation. On March 10, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. detectives located Martinez in the City of Fontana and attempted a traffic stop. Martinez then used his vehicle to ram into two police vehicles and fled from the stop. Martinez led police on a high-speed pursuit that ended in the 10800 block of Kadota Avenue in the City of Montclair. Martinez refused to exit the vehicle, and Crisis Negotiators attempted to deescalate the situation and negotiate a peaceful surrender. The negotiations continued for over an hour before Martinez abruptly exited the vehicle while pointing a dark colored object and advancing towards officers in a two-handed shooting stance, at which time an officer involved shooting occurred. Officers immediately provided medical aid to Martinez, and he was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The shooting is the subject of several investigations. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office will conduct the investigation into the officer involved shooting. The Fontana Police Department is conducting an investigation into the Assault with a Deadly Weapon by Martinez against Chino Police officers. The Chino Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation into the domestic violence and kidnapping incident. The Chino Police Department will also conduct a separate administrative investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding the officer involved shooting to determine if the shooting was within policy. The object that Martinez pointed at the officers appears to be a portable battery back. In order to provide transparency to the community we are releasing two photos showing Martinez pointing the object towards officers while in a shooting stance just prior to the officer involved shooting. The first photo is from an officer’s body worn camera and the second photo is from a Chino Police drone which was present at the scene. The investigation is active and ongoing. A Critical Incident Briefing video will be released in the future to update the public. The Chino Police Department urges anyone with information to contact Detective Gregory at 909-334-3136.
