National Guard drops water on wildfires in South Carolina
The National Guard dropped water on wildfires in South Carolina, assisting firefighters in battling the blaze.
Aerial footage from a Black Hawk helicopter shows the scale of the Covington Drive Fire on March 6.
A 40-year-old woman from Myrtle Beach was arrested on Thursday on two charges related to the escape of a residential yard debris burn, which authorities say sparked the wildfire.
Witnesses told the State Forestry Commission that the woman intentionally started a fire in a backyard fire pit near the tree line in the Covington Lakes Subdivision.
Authorities said the flames began on March 1. Fire containment has reached 55 per cent, and the blaze remains at 2,059 acres as of Monday.
