Plane wobbles as it battles to land during Cyclone Alfred in Australia
A plane was shaken from side-to-side as it made a wobbly landing during Cyclone Alfred in Australia.
Footage captured by the YouTube channel Julia Flights shows the Qantas Link jet battling the strong wind and rain at Brisbane Airport on Saturday, March 8.
The Dash 8 was seen struggling against intense cyclone winds, visibly fighting to stay on course as it moved left and right across the turbulent skies.
The Dash 8 turbo propeller plane then pitches uncomfortably, its nose dropping just metres above the runway.
As it finally touched down, the right wing lifted far higher than the left, tilting dramatically before all three wheels made contact with the tarmac, safely bringing the plane to a halt.
Julia said the flight crew encountered 65 knots of crosswind at 4000ft and praised the pilot for their landing in difficult conditions.
Authorities confirmed the plane had no passengers on board at the time and was one of the first aircraft relocated to Brisbane for passenger flights to resume. It had been kept in Tamworth for safety during the storm.
Onlookers praised the pilot for their exceptional skill in managing the difficult conditions and safely landing the plane.
Cyclone Alfred was downgraded to a tropical low on Saturday, sparing the region from the worst of its possible impact that evening.
More than 330,000 homes and businesses lost power, with electricity lines, houses, and cars damaged by the storm.
One individual was confirmed dead, and several others were injured.
Authorities said that cyclones are common in Queensland's tropical north but are very rare in the region's temperate southeast corner, which borders New South Wales.
Alfred was the most southerly cyclone to threaten the region since Tropical Cyclone Zoe in 1974.
