A pilot was killed when an agricultural plane crashed in a sugar cane field in Brazil.

The incident occurred in Nova Andradina, about 298 kilometres from Campo Grande, on Tuesday, March 11, around 9 am.

Authorities confirmed that the pilot, identified as Paulo Roberto Crispim, 40, was found dead inside the small aircraft, which had a capacity for just one person.

Local media reported that Paulo was conducting agricultural spraying at the time of the crash. The plane belonged to a private company, though authorities have not yet revealed its name.

Civil Police teams are investigating the cause of the incident.
