Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong on Tuesday said that China stands ready to join hands with the European Union (EU) and its member states to deepen cooperation at the United Nations in practicing multilateralism and making joint efforts for global peace and prosperity. When speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on cooperation between the UN and the EU, Fu noted that China welcomes cooperation between the UN and the EU and is pleased to see that the EU can play a big role in UN affairs. China believes that the EU is an important pole in a multi-polar world, and maintaining the stability of the international system and resolving major global issues cannot be achieved without the EU participation, said Fu. China welcomes the EU commitment to upholding and defending the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and hopes that the EU will actively engage in international cooperation and promote the resolution of global challenges by leveraging the UN platform, according to Fu. The time has come to settle the Ukraine crisis through negotiations, and it is necessary for Europe to play a role in driving peace and building a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security architecture, according to Fu. China appreciates the efforts made by the EU in promoting the implementation of a two-state solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict, and hopes the bloc can continue to play a constructive role in supporting the reconstruction of Gaza and alleviating the humanitarian disaster there, said Fu.
