Los Angeles, United States - March 11, 2025 03/11/2025 07:30 pm (GMT-0700) UNIVERSITY PARK, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating a shooting involving the LAPD and an armed man Tuesday evening. LAPD's Southwest officers responded to a call around 6:30 p.m. regarding a man who was armed experiencing a mental health crisis inside an apartment in the 2300 block of Scarff Street, according to the LAPD. Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact the man and have him exit the apartment. At some point the man came out of the apartment holding what appeared to be a firearm, according to the LAFD. Officers discharged their firearms, but the suspect was not struck. The suspect then retreated into an apartment. LAPD SWAT units arrived at the scene and after further negotiations, the man surrendered and was subsequently taken into custody without further incident. As a result, West 23rd Street from Oak Street to Norwood Street and Scarff Street to Saint James Park West were closed. The investigation is ongoing.
