Magpie throws mother dove out of nest before stealing its eggs
On 12th March in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, a dove was incubating its eggs in a nest on a residential balcony when a magpie suddenly invaded. The magpie aggressively attacked the dove, forcing it to flee, before snatching the unhatched eggs and flying away.
Ms Jingjing, the homeowner, had been observing the dove’s nesting process and had set up a camera on 1st March to record the incubation. However, upon returning home on 12th March, she found feathers scattered across her balcony and noticed the dove was missing. Checking the footage, she discovered the shocking scene of the magpie bullying the dove, plucking its feathers, chasing it away, and even stealing its eggs.
Frustrated by what she saw, Ms Jingjing exclaimed, “I’m furious! This is nothing short of robbery!” She added that the magpie never returned, while the dove came back once, but upon finding its eggs gone, flew away.
