Pune, India - March 09, 2025 A leopard pounced on a dog while its owner lay on a cot outside, unaware of the predator’s presence as he looked at his phone. The incident took place in Bhor town, Pune district, Maharashtra, western India, on March 9. The visuals show the leopard cautiously approaching the sleeping dog, which was resting on the ground beside its owner. Suddenly, the leopard grabs the dog, startling the owner, who leaps up in shock and rushes toward his house in panic. Fortunately, the dog manages to break free from the leopard’s grasp and escape. Shital Rathod, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Pune, stated that the area is a designated forest zone and is home to approximately 50 leopards. Authorities have already issued cautionary notices to residents living nearby, advising them to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Rathod emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines to minimize human-wildlife conflict, as leopards are known to occasionally venture close to human settlements in search of food. The forest department has also increased patrolling and installed signboards to create awareness among locals.
