This is the dramatic moment Good Samaritans rescued a driver from a crashed car sinking in a river.

Local media reported that an elderly man driving a brown hatchback lost control and plunged into the icy waters of Sichuan, China, with two family members on March 6 morning.

Upon seeing this, two quick-thinking men nearby did not hesitate to jump into the freezing water to save the victims.

Footage shows the vehicle sinking with the driver and his family seated in the passenger seats still inside the car.

One rescuer swam toward them and attempted to break the window while the pensioner tried to move out of the vehicle.

However, the car was rapidly sinking, making it difficult for the man to retrieve them.

Moments later, another local, using a lifebuoy, swam to their aid and successfully smashed the rear window to retrieve the victims.

Two boats can be seen moving towards them to help bring the individuals to safety.

Local media reported that the elderly man is recovering well, while the other two remain in critical care.
