A herd of elephants chased away tourists who were taking photos of them on a road in Thailand.

Footage shows the jumbos, including females and their babies, huddled in the middle of a national park road in Phetchabun province on March 8.

Suddenly, the largest male dashed towards a group of visitors who had their cameras pointed at the animals.

The jumbo trumpeted loudly, and the group ran away as the herd approached them together.

Tourist Tum Rattana said: 'We were going hiking but the road to the trail was blocked by the elephants.'

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.

The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
