Los Angeles, United States - March 13, 2025 03/13/2025 12:30 am (GMT-0800) OXNARD, Calif. – Heavy rain and strong winds impacted the area of Rose Avenue and Gonzales Road early Thursday morning. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard issued a Flash Flood Warning for southern Ventura County at 12:47 a.m. PDT, which is set to remain in effect until 2:15 a.m. PDT. Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area at the time of the warning. Flash flooding was either ongoing or expected to begin shortly. The hazards associated with this weather event include flash flooding caused by the thunderstorms. The source of this information was collected through radar and automated gauges. Flash flooding can affect small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other locations with poor drainage in low-lying areas. Some specific locations that may experience flash flooding include Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Ventura, Camarillo, Moorpark, Santa Paula, Port Hueneme, Newbury Park, Point Mugu State Park, Ventura Harbor, Oak Park, Somis, and Naval Base Ventura County. Residents are urged to take precautionary actions, such as avoiding flooded roads. Turn around and do not attempt to drive through flooded areas, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Those living in hilly terrain should be particularly cautious of low water crossings, which can be dangerous in heavy rain. If a Flash Flood Warning is issued for a recent burn area, residents should take immediate measures to protect their life and property by quickly moving away from the area if safe to do so. If not, they should shelter in place and move to the highest location possible in their homes to avoid fast-moving water and debris flows.
