London, United Kingdom - March 12, 2025 Two Just Stop Oil supporters drenched an Optimus robot with orange liquid latex at the Westfield Tesla store today. The dramatic protest unfolded at 10:15am when the pair climbed onto a podium, poured the latex over the humanoid robot, and unfurled a Just Stop Oil banner. They’re demanding the UK government ditch fossil fuels by 2030 and didn’t hold back with their fiery words. “Shut down the fascists!” they bellowed. “The government is failing to protect our democracy from fossil fuel companies and power-hungry billionaires. I will not stand by and let the climate crisis cause global food destruction, mass starvation and the collapse of civil society. Shut down the fascists.” They slammed the rich for dreaming of “Nazi robots and swasti-cars” while calling for warm housing, clean energy, and cheap transport. “Don’t let billionaires decide your future,” they urged. “Join us this Spring in Parliament Square.” Among the activists was Catherine Rennie Nash, 74, a gran and ex-teacher from Cumbria. She raged: “Billionaire Elon Musk likes to punch down. Instead of solving the climate crisis or world hunger, he’s throwing people out of work and amplifying hate on social media. He and his pals want to destroy democracy. If you want to fight it, learn to resist. Sign up for action.” Her comrade, Nigel Fleming, 63, a grandad and retired tax adviser from London, added: “Actuaries say catastrophic climate impacts are coming before 2050—crop failure, starvation, mass migration, civil unrest. We don’t have time for denial. We need an emergency plan to ditch oil and gas by 2030. Frankly, fuck Musk. Join us in Parliament Square to demand Kier Starmer acts.” The stunt follows Tesla’s woes after Elon Musk’s Nazi salute at Trump’s January inauguration sparked outrage. Tesla sales have tanked amid boycotts and protests, with activists targeting Tesla sites in the US, Germany, France, Portugal, and the UK. Some protests turned ugly, with fires set at Tesla factories and showrooms. Meanwhile, a wider boycott of US goods rages in Canada and Europe over Trump’s trade policies and authoritarian streak.
