Natalie’s African headscarf-tying lesson with Kgomotso and Letlhogonolo

Buy video

My friend Natalie is fascinated with the variety and elegance of the headscarf styles worn by African women. While staying in Pilanesberg National Park South Africa she asked the funny, friendly women who operate the park’s Manyane Gate to show her how they tie the various headscarf styles they wear. Kgomotso (with the headband) and Letlhogonolo were only too willing to demonstrate their scarf-tying techniques, although they were frustrated by Natalie’s smooth, slippery Western hair because it didn’t provide enough friction to hold the tied headscarf in place! This video is a lovely record of a hilarious hour or so when various headscarf-tying styles were applied to Natalie’s head.
